Liquitex Professional Clear Gesso

Liquitex Clear Gesso is a very clear size and ground for preparing your surface for painting and drawing and providing a high level of tooth. The benefit of using a clear gesso is that the working surface will be kept visible, so you can get a natural base look for your work.

Liquitex Clear Gesso provides the perfect tooth and superior colour adhesion to a wide variety of surfaces including canvas, paper, and wood. It’s the perfect gesso for priming your surface, ready to paint with acrylics and oils, draw with graphite and charcoal, or work on with oil pastels!

This gesso will dry clear or translucent depending on the thickness applied. Alternatively, you can mix Liquitex Clear Gesso with acrylic paint to create a tinted ground for working with –Soft Body Acrylics will provide optimal consistency for this. The gesso dries to a flexible, non-yellowing layer that won’t crack.

To use, apply Liquitex Clear Gesso straight from the container with a flat broad brush or a roller. The gesso can also be thinned up to 25% with water, or beyond 25% with a mixture of water and Liquitex Matte medium in equal measure. Before applying the gesso, sand down hard or shiny surfaces and apply a thin coat of gesso to start, allowing it to dry for 24 hours before beginning your painting. For a smoother base, sand after your first coat and reapply gesso.

If using as a base for oil painting, it is recommended you apply 2-4 coats of Liquitex Clear Gesso and sand between coats.
