Award-Winning Designs in Hardanger 2015
In 1979, Roz and Sue of Nordic Needle in Fargo, North Dakota, had been in business for only 4 years.
Their main focus then (and now) was to promote the fine Norwegian needleart of Hardanger Embroidery.
One of the ways to accomplish this was to hold a contest and invite Hardanger stitchers to design their own original piece of Hardanger embroidery.
That first year's contest brought ninety-five entries from stitchers all over the USA and into Canada!
From this collection, twenty-two designs were chosen and the first "Award-Winning Designs in Hardanger Embroidery" book was published, showcasing the winning designs.
Forty years later, the contest is still alive and well with entries coming in from all over the world as creativity and originality continues!
Truly an international competition, this Norwegian embroidery technique has broken through the ethnic borders and claimed its position as a favored needleart around the world.
The 2015 compilation of contest winners will feature the amazing work of 10 designers from the United States, Australia, Canada, France, and Japan.
