The elastic is very tight so that a pen or pencil doesn't slip through. The adhesive on the tab is super strong. The pen holders are reasonably priced for their quality. I purchased some in a variety of colours for stocking fillers. I highly recommend Leuchtturm1917 Pen Loops.
